I need to figure out a better placement plan so I'm not blocking the view so much 😅 but I finally set up some cameras to film this session and I'm going to show you how I safely pose a baby in different set ups.
This first one is called froggie, although baby did not want his feet out from under him so we just went with it and this is one of the most complex newborn poses in my opinion. I do composites on many poses, but this one for sure should always be done as a composite.
You will see that there is a hand on baby at all times, I have dad holding baby's head for the bottom half of the image, and then I hold baby's wrists and dad could let go for the top half of the image. A baby cannot safely support their own head, and even if you feel like they're secure and not moving, it takes a split second for baby to jolt and fall over, risking serious injury.

Then we move baby into the womb or taco pose, it can be called either one and this one doesn't require a hand on baby but I still have dad sitting right beside the beanbag because I have to back up away from it to get some of the shots.

Next is the bucket pose and this one either has a hand right above baby or a hand on the head depending if baby is wiggly or the head flops to the side. In this case, baby was tucked in a way that his head stayed centered so dad just had to raise his hand on my count and bring it back down immediately after the shot.

This one is the potato sack pose and I use a cat scratcher underneath the fur and even though baby is fully wrapped and secure, I still have dad sit right next to baby as he was fully awake and moving his head during this pose. Any time I have baby in a prop, I have someone sitting next to it but especially when baby is awake because you just never know!
P.s, baby spit up a little 😅

Next we have baby dressed in an outfit for some more beanbag posing where I do the tummy time or bum up pose and again, a hand is not needed on baby for this one and I use supports under and around baby where he's kind of held in place, but dad is still right beside the beanbag.

Mama had to bring baby back another day for more as he was just over stimulated the first day and grandma came to help. It's still so weird referring to my sister as a grandma 😂
This next one baby is in a basket, so same thing applies here as the bucket.

And the last prop was the baby bed and it's honestly one of the safest props I use, but I still have someone right next to it.

I know I talk a lot about newborn safety and I go on my rants and tell you how it should be done, but it's also nice to see these things in action and I can actually show my clients how I safely work with a baby to help put their mind at ease that their baby is in the safest hands.
This baby is my own family, and I still do everything exactly the same way I would with any other. Safety 1st always!
